  • Britain’s royal family has confirmed Kate Middleton is in the hospital on bed rest and expecting an heir to the throne.
  • Howard Stern told listeners of his SiriusXM show Monday morning that he will be returning to NBC’s competition “America’s Got Talent” in the summer.
  • Where does MTV go after “Jersey Shore”? Next stop, West Virginia, for “Buck Wild,” starting January 3.
  • Brad Pitt’s new movie, “Killing Them Softly” is an official box-office flop, opening in the number seven position and earning only $7 million opening weekend.
  • According to a new study, the perfect income for happiness is $161,000 a year. Less than that and you can be happier… more than that, and you’re no more happy than you were at $161K.

  • THIS FLU SEASON COULD BE THE WORST IN A DECADE _ Uh oh. Health officials say we’re already seeing a spike in flu cases, several months early. The good news, though, is that as of now health officials report this year’s flu vaccine seems to be a good match for the strains making people sick. +
  •  England’s Prince William and his wife, Kate Middleton, are expecting their first child. [I know what you’re thinking but no, the kid’s uncle, Prince Harry, will still be the family’s most immature member.]
  • PETITION STARTED TO FUND DEATH STAR _ At whitehouse.gov you can start a petition. And, supposedly, if your petition hits something like 25,000 signature, the White House promises to look it over. Fingers crossed on this one: Someone has started a petition to “secure resources and funding, and begin construction of a Death Star by 2016.”+
  • SNOWFALL HELPS COPS _ A Flint, Michigan, woman called police Sunday and told them she was having problems with her 20-year-old son. He took off on his bike before cops arrived, leaving fresh tires that led police to a home a couple blocks away where he was arrested on some outstanding warrants.
  • YAHOO’S TOP SEARCHES OF 2012 _ Yahoo is out with the top searches of 2012. They are (in order): Elections; iPhone 5; Kim Kardashian; Kate Upton; Kate Middleton. +
  • Respect the power of the mistletoe . . . and NOT just its power to get someone to make out with you.  Researchers in Australia have found that mistletoe extract is as effective in fighting colon cancer as chemotherapy.  More research has to be done, but it’s promising. 
  • Last week, there was a great story about a cop in New York who saw a barefoot homeless guy in Times Square, and bought him $100 boots to keep his feet warm.  WELL . . . the homeless guy says he isn’t wearing the boots, because they’re too expensive and he could get killed for them.  AND he feels exploited, and wants a piece of the money people made from using his photo to promote the story.
  • According to a study out of Spain, you can tell if someone is lying by paying attention to their NOSE.  They call it the “Pinocchio Effect” . . . but your nose doesn’t get bigger, just warmer.  Scientists looked at thermal images of people’s faces, and found that their noses and the corners of their eyes got warmer when they lied . . . and colder when they were doing a difficult mental task.
