Eating Well magazine has identified 10 drinks that have specific anti-aging qualities that can make your skin softer and more supple, ward off dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, keep your heart healthy and even help rebuild the muscle mass we begin to lose in our 30s.

1. Pink grapefruit juice for smoother skin
Pink grapefruit juice is packed with lycopene, a carotenoid that helps keep your skin smooth. You can even see the lycopene in the juice, since it’s what gives pink grapefruit its pink-red hue.
2. Alcohol to ward off Alzheimer’s disease
Yes, the wine you drink with dinner, the beer you have with pizza on Friday night or the cocktail you enjoy at that swanky party may help ward off dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. How? As we age, our brain cells naturally die, which produces gaps that slow nerve transmission within the brain, as well as between the brain and the rest of the body. Alcohol, when consumed in moderation helps prevent those gaps. Warning: Heavy drinking does just the opposite. It can lead to brain damage that may result in permanent memory loss.
3. Cocoa for a healthier heart
Cocoa is rich in flavanols that help keep your blood vessels functioning well, which in turn lowers your risk of high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, kidney disease and dementia.
4. Beet juice to beat dementia
The magic ingredient in beets is naturally occurring nitrates, which are very different from the unhealthy artificial nitrates found in processed meats.These healthy nitrates help boost blood flow in the frontal lobe of the brain, an area associated with dementia. Don’t like beets and can’t imagine drinking beet juice? Cabbages and radishes also contain naturally occurring nitrates.
5. Green tea to suppress inflammation
Chronic inflammation is known to play a role in many diseases, including type 2 diabetes, autoimmune diseases, heart disease, cancer and stroke. Green tea is packed with potent antioxidants that can inhibit oxidative stress and the potential inflammation that may result from it. For the best results, drink about four to six cups of green tea daily.
6. Soymilk for firm skin and fewer wrinkles
It is the isoflavones in soymilk that help preserve the collagen in skin, making it more firm and less likely to wrinkle.

Beginning in our 30s, we lose as much as 1 percent of our lean muscle mass each year. In addition, our muscle strength drops by 12 percent to 15 percent a decade.
